So you finally decide to take that one step out, to design and publish your website. You’ve read numerous articles about domain names and web hosting providers, but still no clue what’s it all about?
What is FTP, MySQL, POP3 Emails, Bandwidth? Well don’t worry we’re going to address it right here. In addition to that, we’re going to make this web hosting guide, so simple, such that even a high school kid can understand.
Ok let’s start with some basic overview. There are basically two components you need to look at, before publishing your website:
- Domain Name
- Web Hosting Account
We’ll cover each item more in-depth in the subsequent articles. But in short, think of the domain name, like your postal address. Your web hosting account will be your mailbox.
Examples of domain names include abcxyz.com, or hallmark.com. The domain name of the website you’re on now (pause and look at the address bar on your browser, got it?) is www.webhosting-for-dummies.com
Ok, so once you’ve registered your domain name (i.e. registered your mailing address) you’ll need a web hosting account (or your letterbox).
The web hosting account, will be used as a storage space for your emails, and web pages. So for example if you intend to post a number of videos and photos on your website, then you’ll need a larger capacity web hosting account (i.e. Larger letterbox to store more letters)
Well in short that’s the concept behind web hosting. Bet you were expecting more? Sorry to disappoint you then…
